Collecting 100 rejections, did I succeed?

Writer's picture: Joëlle BargJoëlle Barg

About half a year ago I decided to collect rejections, inspired by this article by Kim Liao. In it, Kim talks about the value of collecting rejections. That it is actually a way to change your mindset and offer yourself opportunities. Then of course the question is: "Did I succeed in collecting 100 rejections?" The short answer is no, I did not. You will get the longer answer by reading further.

The challenge begins

Now I have to be honest with myself, I started with a backlog. A backlog of half a year to be exact. So 100 rejections was a very high goal. It also sounds easier than expected, but if you actually keep track of it, you will go slower than expected. But with good courage I started this challenge and kept an extensive excel sheet. Theoretically I still have 1 whole month, but the status update comes now.

The numbers

Although figures sometimes seem quite black and white, I have to say that this list was not always top-of-mind. Because of this, I forgot to write down some parties. In addition, I have more priorities than just cold acquisition.

Collecting 100 rejections turned out to be a bigger job than expected, but that's what makes a challenge so much fun. That's why I'm trying again next year, starting in January.
